Business Advisory & Consultancy

Business advice from people who have run businesses

Strategy, pricing, margin, cash and the decisions in between. Practical advisory for UK owner-managers who want a straight answer and a plan, not a slide deck.

People in discussion around a meeting table

You probably need this if

  • Sales are growing but profit is not.
  • Every decision still comes back to you.
  • You have a plan in your head and nowhere else.
  • You want an experienced second opinion before a big move.

What good looks like

  • A clear view of where the business actually makes and loses money.
  • Two or three priorities with owners and dates, not a list of forty.
  • Pricing and margin decisions made with the numbers in front of you.
  • A regular, honest conversation with someone who has no stake in telling you what you want to hear.

Who it is for

Owner-managers and leadership teams of established businesses who want an experienced, independent sounding board and someone to hold them to the plan.

Start with the real problem

Most businesses do not have a strategy problem. They have a pricing problem, a cash problem, a people problem or a systems problem that looks like a strategy problem. Our first job is to find out which one it is, using your numbers rather than assumptions.

We run a structured diagnostic across finance, operations, sales and people, then agree the two or three things that would make the biggest difference.

Advice you can act on

Every recommendation comes with the number it should move, the person who owns it and the date it should be done by. We stay involved through delivery, not just the report.

  • Pricing and margin review
  • Cash flow and working capital improvement
  • Operational efficiency and bottleneck analysis
  • Board and management reporting design
  • Exit, succession and ownership planning
  • Monthly or quarterly advisory retainers

Part of a wider ecosystem

Because Fortis also delivers accountancy, HR, procurement, marketing and systems, advice does not stop at a recommendation to "get someone to sort that". We can bring in the right discipline or introduce you to a vetted partner.

The growth staircase

Growth fails when the business climbs two steps on one step's cash and people. The plan sets the sequence, the model proves it funds itself, and quarterly reviews keep it honest.

How it works

    Diagnostic

Two to four weeks across finance, operations, sales and people, using your real data.

  2. 02

    Priorities

A short written plan: what to change, the figure it should move, who owns it and by when.

  3. 03

    Deliver

A fixed project or monthly retainer, pulling in other Fortis disciplines where needed.

  4. 04

    Review

Monthly or quarterly sessions against the agreed measures. We stay until it is done.

Questions

Advisory FAQs

How is this different from what my accountant does?

Accountants report what happened. Advisory is about what to do next: pricing, cash, growth, people and structure. We do both, which means the advice is grounded in your actual figures.

Do you only work with large businesses?

No. We work best with owner-managed businesses with turnover between roughly £250k and £20m. The problems are the same at every size; only the zeros change.

What does a typical engagement look like?

A short diagnostic over two to four weeks, a plan with owners and dates, then either a fixed project or an ongoing monthly retainer to see it through.
